U16 Girls Allstars - 2012 John Trag Champions

U16 Girls Allstars - 2012 John Traganitis Tournament Champions

The U16 girls entered the John Trag tournament hoping to end the season on a high note. After a win against Pickering and a loss against Peterborough in the first two games, the girls needed a win or a tie
against Darlington in their final round-robin game to advance to the finals. After falling behind 1-0 things weren’t looking good until a solidly struck penalty kick in the dying minutes evened the score and sent the team to the finals, and a rematch against Peterborough.

The two teams were very evenly matched, as evidenced by the fact that no goals were scored in either the 50 minutes of regulation time, or the 10 minutes of overtime. The teams proceeded to penalty kicks and after 5 kicks apiece, the teams were still tied at 3-3. The team’s 6th kick was successful while Peterborough’s attempt was denied, sending everybody home happy.

For the record, the team entered 5 tournaments this season and came away as champions in three and as finalists in the fourth.

Congratulations on a fantastic season!

U10 Girls Team 2 - 2012 Innisfil Tournament Champions

The girls continued to display a strong passing and possession game that has shown improvement with each passing month, winning in Innisfil on September 1-2, 2012.

After thoroughly dominating early-round play, allowing only one goal against heading into the Final, the girls came up against a strong Unionville team.

Unionville took an early lead in the Final before the Aurora girls turned it on, scoring 6 straight goals to take command of the game.  Unionville scored late goals to make it close, but the Aurora girls held on for a 6-3 victory and the Championship.

Way to go girls, back-to-back tournament wins and two-time Innisfil Champions!

U10 Girls Team 2 - Gloucester Tournament Champions

U10 Girls Team 2 - 2012 Gloucester Tournament Champions

The girls of 2002 kept their streak of tournament success going, winning the top tier of the Gloucester International Soccer Tournament in the Nation’s capital, held August 11-12, 2012.

The girls travelled all the way to Ottawa to beat nearby Bolton in the opening game of the round robin play.  Aurora lost a close 1-0 game to Pierrefonds of Quebec before beating hosts Gloucester Hornets to advance in the tournament.

In an exciting and intense Semi-Final, Aurora avenged its earlier loss to Pierrefonds, with a convincing 2-0 win.  Aurora was on to the Final, where the girls beat Cumberland Cobras 1-0 in a closely contested match.

Throughout the tournament, the girls played with tremendous effort, which has become one of the team’s trademarks, along with great passing and a true team effort.

Awesome play girls, you continue to make Aurora proud!

2001 Girls - USA International Cup Champions

Aurora Stingers Claim Gold at International Tourney

BLAINE, Minn. (July 21, 2012) – Opponents of the Aurora Stingers Blue under-11 girls soccer team have long known the efficiency of the squad, as it has marched unscathed through recent seasons.

Now, the United States is getting in on the not-so-well guarded secret of the York Region Soccer League Premier Division team that has won every game since starting competitive soccer at the under-8 level. The Stingers rode a penalty kick goal by Adrienne Abbaglido in the first half and shutout goalkeeping by Meaghan Phillips to a 2-0 victory over the Alaska Eclipse (Fairbanks) in the championship game of the prestigious Schwan’s USA Cup tournament in Blaine, Minnesota Saturday. Emily Lazenby was credited with a second-half goal to complete the Stingers’ offence. It was the seventh consecutive win for Aurora at the tournament, including a sweep of four pool games in which the Stingers outscored opponents 19-0. After a 4-0 victory over the Cook Island (Alaska) Velocity in the quarter-final round, Aurora survived a semifinal scare against Hawaii’s Kapolei Aces for a 3-2 victory after falling behind 2-0 by halftime.

The tournament is billed as the largest soccer tournament in the Western Hemisphere, with 958 teams and more than 14,000 athletes from 16 nations participating in the week-long event. “It’s a pretty unique experience,” Aurora head coach Brent Unger said Tuesday. “It’s incredible ... Even as you’re coaching, there’s another guy in another language nearby coaching his team.”

In other action, the Stingers dropped a 4-0 decision to Japan’s Tokiwagi Gauken High School from Sendai in the final of the under-16 category. The Japanese broke away with three goals in the second half after taking a 1-0 lead in the first. [Era Banner - July 26, 2012]

The 2001 Aurora Stingers went undefeated in all 7 games meeting teams from all over including a tough Semi Final with Hawaii, and the Finals against an Alaskan team.

Victory was sweet and the team was presented with new Puma Cleats, Track Bags, Hardware, and a huge trophy!  Well done Stingers!!

U9 Boys Allstars - Win 2012 Lake Simcoe Tournament

U9 Boys Allstars - Win 2012 Lake Simcoe Tournament

Today we played the team that we tied with yesterday in the round robin. The game was very similar to yesterday's with the same scoreline, turn of events,as they took the lead then we tied and pulled ahead, only to give up the tying goal like yesterday, in the last minute...

We prevailed in the nerve wrecking penalty shoot-out and we should all be very proud of our boys the way they competed. The coaching staff was especially pleased with our improvement in the positioning, marking opponents in the defensive zone, the way they paid attention to instructions before and during the game and challenging for the ball.

5:1 over markdale; 2:2 tie vs darlington; 2:1 win vs stouffville;

2:2 in the final vs Darlington – regulation time, Stingers take it 2:1 in a shoot out.

Congatulations TEAM!

U16 Girls Allstars - 2012 Owen Sound Tournament Champions

U16 Girls Allstars - 2012 Owen Sound Tournament Champions

The U16 Girls Allstars team travelled up to Owen Sound for the 4th consecutive year and played all weekend in extremely hot conditions! After playing the Wilmot Blazers to a nil-nil draw in the Sunday morning game, the same two teams met up in the final on Sunday afternoon. A further 70 minutes was still not enough to produce a single goal, so the teams headed to penalty kicks, where the girls scored on all four of their shots and won by a margin of 4-1.

This is the second consecutive first place finish for the team having already won the King City tournament earlier this season. Congatulations girls!

U10 Girls Team 2 - Peterborough Challenge Cup Finalists

U10 Girls Team 2 - Peterborough Challenge Cup Finalists

The girls of 2002 continued their strong play, reaching the final in the Peterborough tournament, held June 2-3, 2012.

The girls went undefeated en route to the final, not allowing a goal against along the way.  They lost a heart-breaker by a score of 3-2 to Darlington on the last play of the final, as hard rain began to fall.  The girls fell behind 2-0 in the first five minutes of the game, but showed incredible determination to fight their way back and tie the game before the end of the first half.

The girls played with great composure throughout the tournament, putting on a wonderful display of passing and teamwork, which should benefit them through the remainder of the season.

2002 Girls - Oshawa Tournament Champs

2002 Girls - Oshawa Tournament Champions

The girls of 2002 opened up the outdoor season with a great display of passing and teamwork en route to winning the Oshawa tournament, held May 5-6, 2012.  The girls beat Newmarket 2-1 in the final. The team allowed only one goal against in 5 games played, and showed great determination in winning three 1-goal games. In the final, the girls remained committed to a possession style of play, and went ahead 2-0.  Newmarket made it interesting with a goal in the second half off a well-struck long-range shot, to pull within one goal.  However, the Aurora girls stayed composed to close out the game with a well-deserved win.

Way to go girls, keep up the great effort and super teamwork!

U11 Boys - Win 2012 Empire Cup

U11 Boys Team 2 - Win 2012 Lakefront Classic Empire Cup

The Aurora Stingers White U11 Boys Team 2 were champions at the WSA's 21st Annual Lakefront Classic/Empire Cup 2012.  The boys played hard, beating their opponents 11-0 first game, 10-0 second game, 3-0 third game and won in the finals 2-0!  Four shut outs for our team!!  We went into the final game with a 0-0 score up until second half and then put two goals in the second half, to a team that had also won all of their games in shut outs up until then.  Our boys fought hard despite of the heat and were thrilled to beat a tough opponent who also fought hard up until the very last second. Congratulations Stingers!
