The U16 girls entered the John Trag tournament hoping to end the season on a high note. After a win against Pickering and a loss against Peterborough in the first two games, the girls needed a win or a tie
against Darlington in their final round-robin game to advance to the finals. After falling behind 1-0 things weren’t looking good until a solidly struck penalty kick in the dying minutes evened the score and sent the team to the finals, and a rematch against Peterborough.
The two teams were very evenly matched, as evidenced by the fact that no goals were scored in either the 50 minutes of regulation time, or the 10 minutes of overtime. The teams proceeded to penalty kicks and after 5 kicks apiece, the teams were still tied at 3-3. The team’s 6th kick was successful while Peterborough’s attempt was denied, sending everybody home happy.
For the record, the team entered 5 tournaments this season and came away as champions in three and as finalists in the fourth.
Congratulations on a fantastic season!
