U16 Girls Allstars - 2012 John Trag Champions

U16 Girls Allstars - 2012 John Traganitis Tournament Champions

The U16 girls entered the John Trag tournament hoping to end the season on a high note. After a win against Pickering and a loss against Peterborough in the first two games, the girls needed a win or a tie
against Darlington in their final round-robin game to advance to the finals. After falling behind 1-0 things weren’t looking good until a solidly struck penalty kick in the dying minutes evened the score and sent the team to the finals, and a rematch against Peterborough.

The two teams were very evenly matched, as evidenced by the fact that no goals were scored in either the 50 minutes of regulation time, or the 10 minutes of overtime. The teams proceeded to penalty kicks and after 5 kicks apiece, the teams were still tied at 3-3. The team’s 6th kick was successful while Peterborough’s attempt was denied, sending everybody home happy.

For the record, the team entered 5 tournaments this season and came away as champions in three and as finalists in the fourth.

Congratulations on a fantastic season!

U10 Girls Team 2 - 2012 Innisfil Tournament Champions

The girls continued to display a strong passing and possession game that has shown improvement with each passing month, winning in Innisfil on September 1-2, 2012.

After thoroughly dominating early-round play, allowing only one goal against heading into the Final, the girls came up against a strong Unionville team.

Unionville took an early lead in the Final before the Aurora girls turned it on, scoring 6 straight goals to take command of the game.  Unionville scored late goals to make it close, but the Aurora girls held on for a 6-3 victory and the Championship.

Way to go girls, back-to-back tournament wins and two-time Innisfil Champions!

U10 Girls Team 2 - Gloucester Tournament Champions

U10 Girls Team 2 - 2012 Gloucester Tournament Champions

The girls of 2002 kept their streak of tournament success going, winning the top tier of the Gloucester International Soccer Tournament in the Nation’s capital, held August 11-12, 2012.

The girls travelled all the way to Ottawa to beat nearby Bolton in the opening game of the round robin play.  Aurora lost a close 1-0 game to Pierrefonds of Quebec before beating hosts Gloucester Hornets to advance in the tournament.

In an exciting and intense Semi-Final, Aurora avenged its earlier loss to Pierrefonds, with a convincing 2-0 win.  Aurora was on to the Final, where the girls beat Cumberland Cobras 1-0 in a closely contested match.

Throughout the tournament, the girls played with tremendous effort, which has become one of the team’s trademarks, along with great passing and a true team effort.

Awesome play girls, you continue to make Aurora proud!

U10 Girls Team 2 - Peterborough Challenge Cup Finalists

U10 Girls Team 2 - Peterborough Challenge Cup Finalists

The girls of 2002 continued their strong play, reaching the final in the Peterborough tournament, held June 2-3, 2012.

The girls went undefeated en route to the final, not allowing a goal against along the way.  They lost a heart-breaker by a score of 3-2 to Darlington on the last play of the final, as hard rain began to fall.  The girls fell behind 2-0 in the first five minutes of the game, but showed incredible determination to fight their way back and tie the game before the end of the first half.

The girls played with great composure throughout the tournament, putting on a wonderful display of passing and teamwork, which should benefit them through the remainder of the season.
