Coach Development

With the implementation of the Canada Soccer Pathway, which is built around the principles of Long-Term Player Development (LTPD), there are several resources for coaches to learn and understand the player and game development in Canada. The Aurora Football Club encourages all coaches to be active participants in the coaching community through certification, coaching clinics, online resources and conferences.

Each year, all Grassroots & Competitive coaches in Ontario must complete their minimum Coach Certification Requirements for their specific age group. All our coaches also need to complete Respect in Sport.

Aurora FC Coaching Development Clinics/Workshops

The Aurora FC is proud of our involvement in the development of coaches, players and mentors. The club puts a lot of time into the proper growth of our staff, to ensure the future and the success of the club.

We have many Development and Mentoring programs in place to help our members and partners grow as athlete mentors and coaches.

AFC Leadership Program (Coach Mentorship)

The Leadership program, is open to any existing AFC player (15+) as well as former players wanting to become coaches. Aurora FC believes that by having players help with the coaching process they will not only develop leadership skills but also evolve into the club's future. Mentorees work with senior staff coaches in our Skills Program, Grassroots Program, OPDL Program and various camps or clinics.

The Program will consist of mentorship, certification, and training over the duration of the season using a combination of on-field support from our staff. This will allow our older players (U15+) the ability to transition from players into coaching roles through the club. Mentorees will be required to work through completing the following courses through the new Canada Soccer Grassroots Coaches Program (Active Start, Fundamentals, Learn to Train). They will also be required to complete 30 hours of volunteering as part of the program. The program will run in conjunction with various programs throughout the year. Days/times will vary depending on the program.

WHY WOULD I WANT TO JOIN THE PROGRAM?

  • Gain leadership skills
  • Earn volunteer hours towards your Grad Transcript
  • Club will provide financial support towards coaching certification (Active Start, FUNdamentals and Learn to Train)
  • Mentorees will be the first to be hired in any Junior Staff coaching positions that become available.
  • Giving back to young athletes
