U13 Girls - Ontario Cup Champions

BACK TO BACK - The 1998 Aurora Stingers Girls team continues to make history. On Saturday, September 17 the team captured it second Ontario Cup in row by once again defeating a very talented team from North Mississauga. Both teams entered the contests without a defeat on the field in 2011 and both won their respective leagues. This was a rematch of last year's final and the game did not disappoint. Both teams seemed to neutralize each other with North Mississauga getting a slight edge in the first half. But just like last year, the Stingers came out in the second half and began to attack deep into North Mississauga's end. Through perseverance and sheer will, the goal finally came in the 68th minute when Alessia Mangoni finished off a nice combination play. The Stingers steel curtain defence then took over and never allowed a North Miss a chance for the rest of the game. Alessia Limotta continued her shutout streak and once again did not concede a goal in quarter final, semi final, or the final. This is an incredible group of girls and they really have set the bar high. They have won their league, the Ontario Cup, and next week go for the Triple Crown when they meet Darlington for the league cup.

Well done Ladies - you have earned it!

U14 Boys Team 1 - Wins CSL Cup

U14 Boys Team 1 - Wins CSL Cup!

The '97 Boys Team 1 played an excellent game on Saturday September 10th in winning the U-14 CSL Cup Final 5-0 against the Wexford Wolves. The game was played in beautiful weather at l'Amoreaux field in northern Scarborough.

The Stingers were clearly the better team for most of the game, taking a 1-0 lead just one minute into the game on a goal by Imad Shaker. They scored three more times on two goals by Brady Reil and one by James Morgan to build a 4-0 lead by half time. In the second half Morgan scored his second goal to round out the scoring. Keeper, Kyle Lachance had a great game to earn the shutout.

It was a real team effort as all seventeen boys made significant contributions to secure the win against the strong Wexford side. It should also be mentioned that the boys went through the entire CSL Cup process without allowing one goal against them. The whole team along with head coach Phil D'Elia and assistant coach Victor Axiotis are to be congratulated for an outstanding accomplishment.

Christine Laflamme, Manager.

Congratulations Stingers!!!

The Aurora U10 Girls Team 1 completed the 2011 YRSL competitive schedule with a perfect 15 wins, 0 losses and 0 ties record, outscoring the oppostion 94 - 4 with 11 shutouts along the way. This is the third consecutive year this team has accomplished this tremendous achievement. 2011 will be remembered as the first time in the team's history where players sustained significant injuries reducing the team roster for long stretches during the season. The Stingers were well prepared to handle any adversity that came their way due to the incredible character and talent of each and every member of the team. Thanks to Coach's Brent Unger and Geoff Uyeno and Manager Mona Dane.

Congratulations Girls!
You are great ambassadors of the AYSC

U9 Girls Team 1 - Thornhill Challenge Champions

U9 Girls Team 1 - Thornhill Challenge Champions

The August 20-21 weekend marked a first for the 2002 Girls Team 1. The young ladies were competing in their final tournament of the year, the Thornhill Challenge Cup. The U9’s are a talented bunch, but development has been the main focus for a large part of their first 2 years as a Rep level team. To date, the girls had never won a tournament competition. While this was no regret to anyone on the team, it doesn’t mean there wasn’t a burning desire inside the players to lift their first trophy.

On Sunday August 21st, the 14 girls did just that. After playing 4 matches over the course of the weekend, the girls found themselves in a great position to win the tournament. They went 3-0 in the round-robin stage outscoring their opponents with 11 total goals for and just 1 against. After winning their pool, the girls went straight to the semi-finals vs. the Guelph Royals. The girls of Aurora completely dominated play winning the match 3-1. Had it not been for an outstanding Guelph goalkeeper, the score line would have been much larger.

The girls went on to the championship game vs. Ajax FC. The girls knew it would be a tough match. They have played 2 matches vs. Ajax in the past registering a draw and a win by just one goal. Ajax FC is a tough physical squad (with some really big girls!) and our Aurora girls knew it. The only words of wisdom from the coaching staff prior to the match were “mind over matter” and “want it more!”

After going down 1-0 early in the match, Aurora came back to tie it at 1. The game would remain tied at 1 until a few minutes into the 2nd half when Aurora popped a beautiful goal to go up 2-1. Then with just 6 minutes remaining in the match, Ajax stunned the Aurora faithful and tied the game at 2. Many thought this game was headed to extra time. Our Aurora girls were given a good beating physically on the day, tears were streaming from the eyes of many girls, fatigue and pain setting in but they never gave up. They kept getting pushed down and they kept getting back up. Every time they did so, they got up with more fire and more desire! The “want it more” factor became clear when Aurora took a 3-2 lead with a wonderful strike from a big distance away with just 2 minutes left to play. The tears quickly turned to smiles. Those 2 minutes must have felt like a lifetime for the girls, but they hung on and were crowned Thornhill Challenge Cup Champions!! Skill can only take you so far. If you do not have the desire and the heart to succeed, success remains a mere dream. These girls certainly have the heart and desire to compete, and it was proven first-hand to everyone who watched.

Congrats on a great weekend girls!

U10 Girls Team 1 - McGarrigle Cup Champions

U10 Girls Team 1 - McGarrigle Cup Champions

Saturday, August 13, 2011 was a great day to play soccer especially for the U10 Stingers Girls Team 1 as they captured the McGarrigle Cup with a solid 4 - 1 victory over the Markham Lightning.  The game saw a very determined Markham team work the Stingers hard as Markham used the energy provided by a Penalty Kick victory over Richmond Hill to advance from the semi finals.  The Stingers were steady as usual, playing a complete team game that leveraged their skills, athleticism, trust in each other and determination on their way to victory.  Earlier in the day the Stingers advanced from the semi final defeating the Newmarket United White team by a margin of 3 - 2.

Congratulations Stingers!!!

Women - YRSL Ben Steenhorst Cup Champions

Summer 2011 was the inaugural year for the AYSC’s senior women’s team. In its first season, the ladies have gone on to surpass all expectations. The coaching staff set out its expectations to the players and they were met, and it seems they were met with ease.

The ladies sit a top their league with just a handful of games left to play and 1st place all but clinched. Well done Ladies!! There was strong play from many of the women this summer and certainly put themselves in a class of their own. The Ladies also took part in the YRSL Cup, also known as the Steenhorst Cup. They met Whitchurch-Stouffville Mustangs in the final and comfortably won the match by a significant margin. The women of AYSC lifted the trophy, hopefully the first of many more to come. Remember, they still have the league trophy to lift come season end.

Congratulations to all members of the senior women’s team on a job well done!

U9 Girls - Ajax Tournament Champions!

After going undefeated during pool play, the girls finished 1st and advanced directly to the Semi-finals.

With an early morning Sunday game against the Ajax Explosion the girls got off to a slow start, but regained their form in the 2nd half for a 3-1 victory.

The final was hard fought game with Whitby, with the score tied 1-1 after extra time. In their first experience at penalty kicks, the girls took control of some nerves and claimed victory with a 3-2 shootout win.
