U18 Girls Team 2 - 2013 CGSL L4P Cup Champions

U18 Girls Team 2 - 2013 CGSL L4 Premier Cup Champions!
AYSC 1995 Girls Team 2 qualified for the U-18 CGSL Premier Cup weekend with a tough win against the league leading North York Cosmos playing them to a 1-1 tie.  It took 7 shooters in penalty kicks to decide the game sending our girls to the Cup Weekend in their final year in the CGSL.  After winning a very physical semi-final with a 3-0 shutout vs. Ajax FC the girls were set to face off against a tough and skilled team in Cobourg.  The final was a match of equals and nothing was decided with the score at 0-0 after 90 minutes.  The shoot-out was over quickly this time with keeper Elaina stopping 2 of Cobourg`s shooters and our girls making good on 4 of 5 opportunities to bring home the CUP!!

U10 Boys Team 2 - 2013 Newmarket Tournament Champions

2003 Boys Team 2 - 2013 Heart of York Tournament Champions!
During the August 10, 2013 week-end, our boys took part in the HOY tournament, hosted by our neighbours to the north. Our boys were grouped in a tough group with some strong opponents to compete with. Our goal on Saturday was to play for Sunday (to advance to the semi-final) while having fun and giving their all in terms of effort, determination, team-work and skill.

Our first game was against Newmarket Team 1. It was a tough battle all along from which our Stingers came out with a 1:0 victory. The next game was against Pickering where Aurora prevailed with the same score, 1:0.

Saturday afternoon ,we were up against Kleinburg where our opponents needed to win by two goals to advance and knock us out of the tournament. Since we played them three days before (4:4 tie) in the league game, our boys knew that this was their hardest game to play, to close out the round robin.  It was a see-saw battle all along. Our boys never gave up and finished with a 3:3tie, thereby winning the group.

On semi-final Sunday we were up against a strong, fast and skilled Markham team. The game finished with a tie and Aurora advanced in penalty kicks, 4:3.

In the final, our Stingers were dealt the same Pickering team that we already faced in the round robin. It was a great, entertaining game in spite there were no goals scored during regulation and extra time.

In the penalty shoot-out, our Stingers were down 3:1 with only one Aurora player left to keep us alive. With fortune on our side and great goaltending, our boys never gave up and took the championship in the 8th round of penalty kicks.

2004 Boys Team 1 - 2013 Heart of York Tournament Champions!
The Aurora Stingers U9 Boys participated in Newmarket's Heart of York tournament over the August 10 - 11 weekend.  They started off with a 2-2 tie vs. Richmond Hill Green, but found their footing in the second game -- a 7-1 victory over Sporting FC.  They finished the first day with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Vaughan Azzurri.  Carrying the momentum into Sunday morning, they closed out the round-robin in first place overall, with solid 9-1 win over Richmond Hill White.  This earned them a re-match with Vaughan Azzurri in the championship match.  The boys came out strong and took an early 2 goal lead and never looked back.  The held off Vaughan throughout the second half, to win the game 2-0 and take their second consecutive tournament championship this season.

U13 Allstar Girls - 2013 Oshawa Tournament Champions

U13 Allstar Girls - 2013 Oshawa Tournament Champs!
The Aurora U13 Girls All-Star team, once again finished a great weekend tournament, this time in Oshawa, going into the finals undefeated, and defeating the team they tied 0-0 in the round robin, 2-1.

Both Keepers, Sam and Lauren were spectacular with a combined goals against of 1 over 7 games, the result of a penalty.

The game started with an early hand ball called against us in the 18, resulting in a penalty kick giving Pickerign a 1-0 lead. Just before the end of the first half, a foul called against Pickering, gave us the same chance to score with a penalty kick, our back defender Taylor stepped up and took her power down to tie the game.

The game goal scorer Monica, with 10 minutes left in the second half, receiving a cross pass from Cedar.
We are very proud of these girls, as whatever the outcome is win or lose we do it as a team and not as individuals.

U9 Boys Team 1 - 2013 CanAm Champions

AYSC 2004 Boys Team 1 - 2013 Aurora CanAm U9 Tournament Champions!
The Aurora Stingers 2004 Boys prevailed in the 2013 Aurora CanAm Tournament.  Starting off strong, the boys went 4-0 and reached the final by defeating: Etobicoke Green 7-0, Markham Black 4-2, Toronto SC 7-0 and Windsor Wheels 4-2.  In the final, they faced a determined Unionville team, and for the first time in the tournament fell behind 2-1.  Rather than getting discouraged, the team rallied late in the second half to tie the game, and on a "golden goal" by Noah Vokey, they won it in overtime.
The team would like to thank AYSC for organizing a fantastic tournament.  This was a weekend the boys will remember for a long time to come, and a great example of what comes from determination and teamwork.

Congratulations boys.  Go Stingers!

U16 Boys - 2013 OSA Indoor Cup Champions

When Coach Phil D’Elia told the boys that playing this winter in the year older division would prepare them for the 2013 season, he didn’t realize how early in the year the team would reap the rewards.  The Ontario Indoor Cup preliminary round was played just 3 days into the new year pitting the 97 boys against Erin Mills, Brampton and  Mt Hamilton with only the winner of the division moving forward. Adapting quickly to the surprising six a side format the boys prevailed easily over Erin Mills and Brampton 4-1 and 5-0 respectively before dismissing a plucky Mt Hamilton squad 2-1 to move onto the next round.    Finding themselves in the tougher division they played a stellar all round game against London Marconi winning handily 4-0 on two goals from Alex Rasiga and one each by Brady Reil and Duncan Allen.  The stingers failed to find the back of the net in their next game against Brampton East losing a close one nothing game. In their final round robin match they needed nothing less than a win to advance against an unbeaten Nepean Hotspurs Team.  Nepean held to their solid defensive style of play, thwarting attack after attack by the Stingers possession style game.  Missing two open nets it seemed that it was game over for the Stingers when Duncan Allen found himself behind the defense with the ball at his feet and only minutes left on the clock.  A deft pass to a wide open Brady Reil and a technical finish meant the boys were off to the Semi Finals the following day with a 1-0 win and control of their division.  The Semi Finals saw the boys face the “Giant Killers” Mississauga Falcons who had knocked out two OYSL teams in their preliminary round. Clearly outmatched the stingers were up 2-0 on goals by Brady Reil and Alex Rasiga before giving up an unfortunate own goal late in the game.  The Finals found the Stingers matching up against the defensive  Neapean Hotspurs once again.  Nepean’s counter attack style found them with a couple of glorious chances against the run of play only to be matched by some outstanding goal tending by Stefano Mercuri in the first half.  Confidence continued to rise with the Stingers dominant ball control in the second half.  Set up by a clinical overlapping run and pass by Jeremy Iu, Brady Reil once again found the back of the net.  Not finished there, Jeremy Iu scored a “cracker” of a goal off a free kick a few minutes later as the boys celebrated as PROVINCIAL INDOOR CHAMPIONS.

Congratulations Stingers!!

U14 Boys Team 1 - 2012 CSL Cup Champions

AYSC U14 Boys Team 1 - 2012 CSL CUP CHAMPIONS!!

Aurora U14 Boys Team 1 brought home the Central Soccer League Cup against a strong Wexford Team. Jacob Smetana struck first giving Aurora the lead, however Wexford fought back and tied the game in the second half.  After playing to a 1-1 draw, the game went to a shootout.  Aurora claimed victory when Conor Braund, Jacob Smetana, and Adam Morgan scored on the first three penalty kicks while keeper Jonathan Boccia shut down the Wexford team. Aurora reached the final after defeating Glen Shields 5 - 3, North Toronto Nitros 4 - 2, and Richmond Hill Black 3 - 2.

Congratulations Stingers!!

U15 Allstar Boys - Getting The Job Done

With a team containing both U14 and U15 boys this remarkable team just kept getting better due to the players training hard and then working hard on the field at game time. Due to a lack of tournaments in their own age group the boys continually had to play in the U16 age group tournaments, but they never questioned the fact they kept playing older teams they just got on with the next game in hand.

Back in July the Boys entered the Lake Simcoe Tournament and although they had a great weekend they eventually lost 2-1 in the final to the talented and older Darlington team…but they were close and this was just a sign of what was to come.

The Boys then played at the North Mississauga Tournament and after fighting the elements, the tournament was delayed for half a day, they put in two solid days of soccer.  A testament to this team, they played five games scored six goals and only let in two.  They were good all over the field, they dug deep and battled hard to eventually win the U16 division by beating Waterloo in a well played final.

The Mississauga Tournament win was followed up by a great showing in our own John Traginitis Tournament. Taking top place in their U15 division the boys then had to play the very strong and eventual tournament champions Darlington U16 team in the semi-finals. It proved too much for the boys and their home town tournament was over.

Finishing out the season the boys attended the Albert Campbell Tournament in Scarborough and again they proved their quality but eventually fell to the tournament winners again….yes the very talented U16 Brampton team.

The season was over and so was an era as coaches Rio Speller-Drews and Chris Speller informed the boys they wouldn’t be back to coach the Allstar team for 2013, but they did invite the players to try out for their new team the 97B Boys Rep Team. Thanks go out to all the players for making this a great season and also to the parents for supporting the boys and getting them to the games on time.

Go Stingers Allstars Go!!!

U17 Girls - Win 46th Robbie Tournament

Aurora Stingers U17 Girls - Win 46th Robbie International Tournament

Returning to The Robbie in 2012 was like taking care of some unfinished business.

In 2011 the girls played as U16’s in the U17/18 division and eventually lost in the Final. This year playing as U17’s in that same division the girls went one better and won their final game to become Champions in this prestigious tournament.

Saturday the girls entered round robin play and had a great day beating Waterloo United 2-0 and then beating Mavericks Sports Club from Barbados 5-0.  Sunday wasn’t quite the same story as the girls gave up a 1-0 lead in the last minute of the game to tie West Rouge 94’s 1-1.  The final game of the round robin was played Sunday afternoon and with other results working in their favour both Aurora and Unionville had already qualified for the Monday final.  At the same time as the Euro Final was being contested, the teams played a shortened friendly game – which Unionville won 2-0.

On to Monday afternoon and the teams are at Birchmount Stadium. The players are lined up at half and individually introduced to the crowd over the speaker system, followed by the Canadian National Anthem, and then the 3:00pm kick off.

AFTER A CAUTIOUS START THE FINAL WAS WON CONVINCINGLY BY THE AURORA STINGERS, BEATING UNIONVILLE 4-0. This fine group of girls totally dominated the game with a nice possession and passing game. They also maintained a high level of intensity despite the very hot weather - overall a great team effort. Two goals were scored by Aurora MVP of the game Rio Speller-Drews and one from each of Anna Sophia Vollmerhausen and Jamie Dobson. That, combined with a shutout from Lysianne Trottier, and the unfinished business from the previous year had been taken care of.  It was a great tournament to participate in and then win.

Congratulations to all the players on the 1995 Aurora Stingers!
