U16 Boys - 2013 OSA Indoor Cup Champions

AYSC 1997 Stinger Boys - 2013 OSA PROVINCIAL INDOOR CHAMPIONS!!

When Coach Phil D’Elia told the boys that playing this winter in the year older division would prepare them for the 2013 season, he didn’t realize how early in the year the team would reap the rewards.  The Ontario Indoor Cup preliminary round was played just 3 days into the new year pitting the 97 boys against Erin Mills, Brampton and  Mt Hamilton with only the winner of the division moving forward. Adapting quickly to the surprising six a side format the boys prevailed easily over Erin Mills and Brampton 4-1 and 5-0 respectively before dismissing a plucky Mt Hamilton squad 2-1 to move onto the next round.    Finding themselves in the tougher division they played a stellar all round game against London Marconi winning handily 4-0 on two goals from Alex Rasiga and one each by Brady Reil and Duncan Allen.  The stingers failed to find the back of the net in their next game against Brampton East losing a close one nothing game. In their final round robin match they needed nothing less than a win to advance against an unbeaten Nepean Hotspurs Team.  Nepean held to their solid defensive style of play, thwarting attack after attack by the Stingers possession style game.  Missing two open nets it seemed that it was game over for the Stingers when Duncan Allen found himself behind the defense with the ball at his feet and only minutes left on the clock.  A deft pass to a wide open Brady Reil and a technical finish meant the boys were off to the Semi Finals the following day with a 1-0 win and control of their division.  The Semi Finals saw the boys face the “Giant Killers” Mississauga Falcons who had knocked out two OYSL teams in their preliminary round. Clearly outmatched the stingers were up 2-0 on goals by Brady Reil and Alex Rasiga before giving up an unfortunate own goal late in the game.  The Finals found the Stingers matching up against the defensive  Neapean Hotspurs once again.  Nepean’s counter attack style found them with a couple of glorious chances against the run of play only to be matched by some outstanding goal tending by Stefano Mercuri in the first half.  Confidence continued to rise with the Stingers dominant ball control in the second half.  Set up by a clinical overlapping run and pass by Jeremy Iu, Brady Reil once again found the back of the net.  Not finished there, Jeremy Iu scored a “cracker” of a goal off a free kick a few minutes later as the boys celebrated as PROVINCIAL INDOOR CHAMPIONS.

U9 Boys Team 1 - 2013 CanAm Champions

AYSC 2004 Boys Team 1 - 2013 Aurora CanAm U9 Tournament Champions!

The Aurora Stingers 2004 Boys prevailed in the 2013 Aurora CanAm Tournament.  Starting off strong, the boys went 4-0 and reached the final by defeating: Etobicoke Green 7-0, Markham Black 4-2, Toronto SC 7-0 and Windsor Wheels 4-2.  In the final, they faced a determined Unionville team, and for the first time in the tournament fell behind 2-1.  Rather than getting discouraged, the team rallied late in the second half to tie the game, and on a "golden goal" by Noah Vokey, they won it in overtime.

The team would like to thank AYSC for organizing a fantastic tournament.  This was a weekend the boys will remember for a long time to come, and a great example of what comes from determination and teamwork.

2004 Boys Team 1 - 2013 Heart of York Tournament Champions!

The Aurora Stingers U9 Boys participated in Newmarket's Heart of York tournament over the August 10 - 11 weekend.  They started off with a 2-2 tie vs. Richmond Hill Green, but found their footing in the second game -- a 7-1 victory over Sporting FC.  They finished the first day with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Vaughan Azzurri.  Carrying the momentum into Sunday morning, they closed out the round-robin in first place overall, with solid 9-1 win over Richmond Hill White.  This earned them a re-match with Vaughan Azzurri in the championship match.  The boys came out strong and took an early 2 goal lead and never looked back.  The held off Vaughan throughout the second half, to win the game 2-0 and take their second consecutive tournament championship this season.

U10 Boys Team 2 - 2013 Newmarket Tournament Champions

2003 Boys Team 2 - 2013 Heart of York Tournament Champions!

During the August 10, 2013 week-end, our boys took part in the HOY tournament, hosted by our neighbours to the north. Our boys were grouped in a tough group with some strong opponents to compete with. Our goal on Saturday was to play for Sunday (to advance to the semi-final) while having fun and giving their all in terms of effort, determination, team-work and skill.

Our first game was against Newmarket Team 1. It was a tough battle all along from which our Stingers came out with a 1:0 victory. The next game was against Pickering where Aurora prevailed with the same score, 1:0.

Saturday afternoon ,we were up against Kleinburg where our opponents needed to win by two goals to advance and knock us out of the tournament. Since we played them three days before (4:4 tie) in the league game, our boys knew that this was their hardest game to play, to close out the round robin.  It was a see-saw battle all along. Our boys never gave up and finished with a 3:3tie, thereby winning the group.

On semi-final Sunday we were up against a strong, fast and skilled Markham team. The game finished with a tie and Aurora advanced in penalty kicks, 4:3.

In the final, our Stingers were dealt the same Pickering team that we already faced in the round robin. It was a great, entertaining game in spite there were no goals scored during regulation and extra time.

In the penalty shoot-out, our Stingers were down 3:1 with only one Aurora player left to keep us alive. With fortune on our side and great goaltending, our boys never gave up and took the championship in the 8th round of penalty kicks.
