Welcome to the The Aurora Football Club Ontario Player Development League (OPDL). We are pleased to be one of 18 clubs in Ontario granted an inaugural license in 2013, further solidifying our commitment to player development. The OPDL is part of the Canada Soccer Pathway, a high performance stream of excellence, designed to streamline the identification process for players with a goal of representing Canada one day.

We respect the process and standards developed and mandated by the Canada Soccer and provide each one of our athletes wishing to compete at the OPDL level a top-notch environment for training and individual player development. Through careful selection of qualified candidates, we believe we have a group of some of the highest calibre coaches in the province.

As a member of the AFC OPDL program, you will see the benefits from:
      • Quality instruction from Nationally licensed coaches
      • Exposure to the highest level of soccer in Ontario
      • Ontario Soccer Scouts and coaches regularly in attendance
      • Sport Performance personnel
      • The OPDL calendar also provides each family with a fixed schedule to plan year-round events(vacations, etc.).
      • Our primary concern is individual player development, team success is secondary

Club Integrity  
We are excited to hold an OPDL license and we hold it with great pride. Through our coaching and administration staff, we ensure that our program is meeting and exceeding the standards set by the Ontario Soccer. All of our teams have a dedicated Head Coach appointed by the club. Our trainers and sport performance staff are well respected in the community and have a proven track record to know what it takes to push our athletes to the next level. We also train at the best facilities Aurora.

Regional Talent Centre Success 
It is not about wins, losses and ties, more importantly AFC had 24 players identified and invited to the 2015 Provincial Screening Weekend.

In 2013, the Aurora Football Club (AFC) became one of 18 clubs licensed by the OS for the inaugural 2014 OPDL season. The addition of this elite player development program coupled with our Gold certification for Club Excellence from the OS, demonstrates our commitment to help guide players to achieve their optimal potential.

The OPDL is Canada Soccer's first standards-based youth high performance league that combines top level competition with strict performance-driven training standards. The AFC's player-centric philosophy of play strives to develop each player to their full potential, within the LTPD guidelines.

OPDL Criteria

As the first standards-based league in Canada, there is a set of criteria outlined that each license holder must put into action. Below are some of the ways OPDL takes player development to the next level.

      • Head Coach with a minimum National B license
      • Assistant Coach with a minimum OSA C license

      • 4:1 Ratio:
          • One(1) Fitness Session
          • Three(3) Field Sessions
          • One(1) Game
      • Implement 4-3-3 System
      • No Indoor Season/Games
      • Periodized Training Schedule


      • Written/Verbal Player Evaluations discussed with players and parents
      • Two(2) written player assessments
      • One(1) verbal player assessments

Game Day

      • Season will run from May to September
      • All matches played on Saturday's or Sunday's & occasionally mid week games
      • Unlimited substitutions at half time
      • Roster Size - Min 16, Max 18
