U10 Girls Team 1 - Richmond Hill Challenge Champions

U10 Girls Team 1 Win Richmond Hill Challenge Cup

The U10 Girls Team 1 closed out the 2011 season the same way it started, with a tournament victory. On Saturday, September 17 the girls made the short drive down Bayview Avenue to Richmond Hill where they would take on the Richmond Hill Raiders and the Mississauga Falcons Blue in a shortened division round robin winning both games 3 – 1 and 1 – 0 respectively. Advancing straight to the Semi – Final, the Stingers, now short a player due to yet another injury, faced the Vaughan Azzuri Chargers in a very tough game that remained tied 0 – 0 through regulation play and went straight to Penalty Kicks. Great kicks and great goaltending lead the way as the Stingers advanced past Vaughan to face the powerful Mississauga Falcons in the Final. The Stingers enter the Final looking to avenge a Penalty Kick loss to Mississauga in the Niagara Falls tournament back in August. Again, this game was a tough battle for both teams and again the score remained tied 0 - 0 after regulation time. On to Penalty Kicks for second time that day and again the Stingers brought their ‘A’ game as they outscored Mississauga with great kicks and awesome saves to win the Richmond Hill Challenge Cup.

This tournament was a great way to wrap up a season that saw this team achieve so much including:

  • Frank Sobil Spring Classic Champions (Oshawa) – defeated OSU from Ottawa, 2 – 1 in Final
  • A.C. Douglas Finalist (Niagara Falls) – did not give up a single goal in tournament and lost to Mississauga on Penalty Kicks in Final
  • Richmond Hill Challenge Cup Champions – allowed 1 goal the entire tournament and defeated Mississauga on Penalty Kicks in Final
  • McGarrigle Cup Champions (YRSL League)
  • Undefeated in YRSL League play for the 3rd consecutive year 15-0-0, outscored opponents 94 - 4
  • Competed in the FC Delco tournament in Pennsylvania against top ranked U.S. teams and only gave up 2 goals in 3 games

The U10 Girls are the benefactors of a great development program provided by both their Coach’s and the AYSC. Most importantly, they are a great group of young athletes who constantly demonstrate positive character traits and a tremendous work ethic in practice and during games.

Thanks for a great year girls!

U13 Girls - Ontario Cup Champions

BACK TO BACK - The 1998 Aurora Stingers Girls team continues to make history. On Saturday, September 17 the team captured it second Ontario Cup in row by once again defeating a very talented team from North Mississauga. Both teams entered the contests without a defeat on the field in 2011 and both won their respective leagues. This was a rematch of last year's final and the game did not disappoint. Both teams seemed to neutralize each other with North Mississauga getting a slight edge in the first half. But just like last year, the Stingers came out in the second half and began to attack deep into North Mississauga's end. Through perseverance and sheer will, the goal finally came in the 68th minute when Alessia Mangoni finished off a nice combination play. The Stingers steel curtain defence then took over and never allowed a North Miss a chance for the rest of the game. Alessia Limotta continued her shutout streak and once again did not concede a goal in quarter final, semi final, or the final. This is an incredible group of girls and they really have set the bar high. They have won their league, the Ontario Cup, and next week go for the Triple Crown when they meet Darlington for the league cup.

Well done Ladies - you have earned it!

U14 Boys Team 1 - Wins CSL Cup

U14 Boys Team 1 - Wins CSL Cup!

The '97 Boys Team 1 played an excellent game on Saturday September 10th in winning the U-14 CSL Cup Final 5-0 against the Wexford Wolves. The game was played in beautiful weather at l'Amoreaux field in northern Scarborough.

The Stingers were clearly the better team for most of the game, taking a 1-0 lead just one minute into the game on a goal by Imad Shaker. They scored three more times on two goals by Brady Reil and one by James Morgan to build a 4-0 lead by half time. In the second half Morgan scored his second goal to round out the scoring. Keeper, Kyle Lachance had a great game to earn the shutout.

It was a real team effort as all seventeen boys made significant contributions to secure the win against the strong Wexford side. It should also be mentioned that the boys went through the entire CSL Cup process without allowing one goal against them. The whole team along with head coach Phil D'Elia and assistant coach Victor Axiotis are to be congratulated for an outstanding accomplishment.

Christine Laflamme, Manager.

Congratulations Stingers!!!

The girls met Markham in the final's, a team they had tied earlier in the day, and were looking to play a better game with a better result.  Mission Accomplished. The girls played a spirited game, controlling alot of the play. They hung on at the end for a well deserved 1-0 victory.

The girls will finish out their season with a tournamnent next weekend in Lake Simcoe. Let's wish them luck.
