The Aurora Pro Youth Academy (APYA) is a unique Soccer Academy designed and delivered by the AYSC Technical Director, David Thorburn.  Coach Thorburn will personally provide the advanced skill program for every participant.  Coach Thorburn has developed English Premiership players and has designed a system of youth player recruitment and development that will ensure success.  Each session (Fall, Winter and Spring) follows a comprehensive curriculum that will focus on the players' long term development and physical preparedness. Emphasis is placed on technical improvement through individual skill development, small sided games and small group play.

The aim of the APYA is to develop young talented soccer players of all ages, thus helping them reach their highest level with realistic and achievable goals.

This will be achieved by exposing them at an early age to some of the tried and tested European soccer academies methods and philosophies, insuring the best possible techniques. Below you will see some of the training techniques that will be used.

  • Technical Development with moves to beat opponents including fakes and turns.
  • 1v1s through to 4v4s.
  • Game related drills that incorporate, passing, receiving and running with the ball.
  • Crossing and finishing involving various shooting drills.
  • Patterns of play using width, depth and penetration and support.
  • Player game awareness involving team shaping from defence to attack.
  • Regular skill test programs that help monitor progress.
  • Flexibility exercises that include the very latest fast feet skills.
  • Feedback on individual performance in training and games, with structured   individual action plans, for future development.
  • Guaranteed Fun and Friendly environment for all participants to develop

Two players from the APYA – Tyler Smith and Daniel Milton, have been to Europe on trial with Birmingham City, Fulham and Leicester City. Both have been re-invited to trial again this year.
