U11 Boys Team 1 - Burlington Access Storage Cup Champions!

U11 Boys - Burlington Access Storage Cup Champions!

Competing in a field of 8 teams on a record setting hot & humid weekend the U11 boys team dug deep despite player shortages and went undefeated in 5 games over 2 days to capture the championship trophy over the host Burlington Hurricanes.

Aurora started their weekend with 3 games over 6 hours beating Waterloo, Flamborough and Kitchener scoring 8 goals while only allowing 1 and helping their goalie Andrew D'Andrade earn 2 shutouts in the process. These games resulted in the Stingers placing 1st after day 1 and qualifying to play the 4th place Flamborough Flames in the semi-finals on Sunday.

With the heat cranked up on Sunday at 9am, the Stingers played to a scoreless tie at half and had to dig deep to get the energy to keep going and play to advance to the final later that day. A late game goal by striker Ryan Mascarenhas put the Stingers up 1-0 which was enough to let the team look for cooler places to hang out before the final game at the Sherwood Forest turf field at 2pm.

With the turf reflecting the the hot sun, field temperatures climbed to 40+ degrees and with help from the parents water was refilled a few times over to keep the boys cool on the sideline. Thankfully their play on the field was hot and after some tough battles in 1st half, they lead by 3 goals over an exhausted host team. The Stingers continued their press with goals from Christian Lepone (a golden boot 5 for the weekend) , Ryan Mascarenhas , Malcolm Johnston, Sora Kenea, James Nolan, and Cameron Tomaselli. Solid defending from the entire team and the willingness to compete for every ball resulted in 5 wins, 22 goals for, 1 goal against, 4 shutouts and a great experience for the boys as a team.

Coaches Andy Mascarenhas & Nas Kenea would like to congratulate all of their players for their achievements at this tournament!

Congratulations Stingers!!!
